‘Sunless Shadows’ to enter DOKUFES Film Festival

‘Sunless Shadows’ is to vie at the DOKUFES Int’l Documentary and Short Film Festival in Kosovo.

Iran award-winning documentary ‘Sunless Shadows’ has been qualified for the competition lineup of the DOKUFES Int’l Documentary and Short Film Festival in Kosovo.

Mehrdad Oskouee’s documentary feature film will be attending the Human Rights Dox section of the 9th edition of the event.

In total, 90 films, representing 51 countries will be vying for awards in 8 competition sections.

The doc narrates the story of five young women who are jailed in a small juvenile detention center for murder.

Through breathtaking monologues, the women clarify the circumstances of the murders and even their motives.

‘Sunless Shadows’ was named as the opening film of the 2019 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in the Netherlands which was the film’s first international appearance where it won the festival's best director award.

The 74-minute documentary has also gone on screen at some global events, including the 60th Krakow Film Festival in Poland, the 19th DocPoint - Helsinki Documentary Film Festival in Finland, the 16th ZagrebDox, the Int’l Documentary Film Festival in Croatia, the 18th Geneva Int’l Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH), the 12th Millennium Festival in Belgium and the Museum of Modern Art in New York in the US.

Latest award bagged by ‘Sunless Shadows’ include the Silver Horn award for the Best Director and the Student Jury award at the 60th Krakow Film Festival in Poland as well as the Special Jury Award from the 17th Big Sky International Film Festival in the US.

Recently, ‘Sunless Shadows’ attended the 35th Munich Int’l Documentary Film Festival in Germany, the 15th Doc Edge Festival in New Zealand, the 39th Jean Rouch Int’l Film Festival and the 2020 Melbourne Int’l Film Festival (MIFF) in Australia.

Oskouee’s doc will also head to the 18th edition of the Zagreb Film Festival to be held on November 2020 in Croatia.

DokuFest aims to promote film production in Kosovo and to support film making in general.

The DOKUFES will be running for the first time in an online format from August 7–25, 2020 on a specially designated online platform.
